Shawangunk Hall Renovation

The $13.4 million renovation of Shawangunk Hall included a complete interior reconfiguration of the building. This provided expanded bathrooms to increase plumbing fixture count and address accessibility, new student gathering and study spaces, a new elevator, and updated mechanical systems. The architectural style of Shawangunk Hall’s design follows the architectural design precedent set by Ashokan Hall. Variation of the entry vestibule, roof, and the introduction of a bicycle canopy sets Shawangunk Hall apart from Ashokan Hall.

The creative design elements used at Ashokan Hall introduced new programmatic elements, increased natural light, and created visual connections. These elements were also utilized in the design of Shawangunk Hall. The main entrance stair was redesigned to provide immediate access to the student amenities spaces on the first floor and basement. A new interior finish design was developed to provide a unique and modern updated residence with amenities to enrich student life.

The team designed and produced the project in BIM in six months, beginning in February of 2013, to meet the stringent scheduling requirements of the project. Construction was completed in August of 2014. This project has received LEED Gold certification.
