architecture+ designed the new Airport gift shop and information desk on the main level of the terminal. The gift shop was relocated to this larger, more prominent location that was previously home to the Airport’s information desk. The information desk was relocated adjacent to the new gift shop to generate pedestrian traffic and attract shoppers.

We designed the shop façade as a modern glass box to evoke the image of a colorful gift and provide visual access to the store interior. At the client’s request, we re-used and re-designed many of the fixtures from the original gift shop and also designed additional custom fixtures to complement the original store fixtures.

Sales at Departure, which features gifts and artwork from Capital Region museum and local artists, have increased significantly with the new store design. The new location of the information desk provides a larger work area with custom casework to coordinate with the existing ticketing counters.
