architecture+ designed the consolidation of the SUNY executive offices on the fourth floor of the Plaza Building. This 15,000 square foot alteration accommodates executive level offices, suites and a variety of formal and informal meeting areas. The design takes advantage of existing high ceiling areas and serves as a showcase of the recently developed SUNY branding campaign. The layout of offices and open spaces allows natural light to flood into the long corridor for which the Plaza Building is known. Additionally, finishes and accentuation of the structural columns create a rhythm and interest in this corridor, allowing the path to exist as destination.
Energy efficient lighting fixtures are fully controlled and dimmable and the new VAV air distribution system is fully integrated into the building’s control system. Exterior walls have been insulated and durable interior finishes have been selected so that the fit-up of this space will endure for decades. Crisp paint colors, sustainable birch and bamboo paneling, and white translucent glass help to create a timeless quality to the space. Understated modern furnishings will enhance the design.
As part of this assignment, architecture+ developed a complex relocation plan for SUNY departments who occupied the fourth floor. A seamless move of approximately one hundred staff was implemented in preparation of the gut demolition of the project area.
